Joint statement re: interim phosphorus reduction

Along with the International Institute for Sustainable Development and the Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective, we responded to an updated plan concerning phosphorus reduction at Winnipeg’s largest sewage treatment plant, the North End Water Pollution Control Centre (NEWPCC). Together, we stress the need for continued urgency from both governments to meet previous commitments to accelerate action, and identify two opportunities to reduce phosphorus levels in NEWPCC’s effluent well before long-term upgrades are slated to be complete.
